The Opening
Forza Horizon 4 opens in the classic Horizon way, a compilation race with load music over it but this time they mixed things up a bit. The farther you get in the race the farther you get in the year allowing Forza to showcase the different seasons and their small physics changes. Spring, Summer, and fall pretty much race the same with slippery but fair turning and a decent amount of grip. Winter, however, is like racing on oil. It forces you to take more controlled turns or else you will slide across the road and be inevitably forced to use the rewind mechanic which has not been changed from the last Forza Horizon game. The opening is a great summary of what is to come in Forza Horizon 4.
The Driving
The driving has never felt better. It's still that hypebeast feeling of driving around in fast expensive cars with little to no restrictions but it feels more controlled and mainstream then the last version. Drifting is no longer something that has to be practiced as it feels as if they integrated drifting into overall braking. In Forza Horizon 4 you can no longer go for just overall stats when tuning your car because you'll come out the other side with a 300k piece of butter and your car will be undrivable. You have to make a more strategic approach to tuning your car. In the early game I had saved up enough money for a legendary Audi and tuned it to about 993 out of 999, a big expensive mistake. Overall I love the new mainstream driving and polished, but unchanged tuning
The Gameplay:
The gameplay is fine. Not really much to say about it except you drive cars, gain followers, get money, collect cars, and are rewarded with fun scripted races at periodic follower milestones. The story is pretty much non existent. If anyone has ever played Steep its like that, just over the top hypebeast fun. If you're looking for that kind of game you'll find that Forza Horizon 4 should be all up your alley. This game is meant to be played in chunks. Solo this game gets kind of repetitive but with a friend or two the game is quite entertaining and something to burn the clock with.
Overall
If you’re not a seasoned veteran of racing games and looking for a racing game with a small learning curve this is up your alley. If you’re a veteran and looking for a fun new open world racing game this is for you, and if you are completely new to racing games this is all up your alley. Forza Horizon 4 is very similar to Forza Horizon 3 and if you liked 3 you will love this newer slightly improved version and I recommend you get it. My final verdict is definitely wait until this game goes on sale for 45$ and anything below 45$ is a fair price for this open world racing simulation.
