I turned around thinking it might be Brycen who did it, but instead I had detected the face of a woman, her face was stained with tears, her hair was sleek black, like coal. Her face was white as the first fall of snow, her lips roughened and red like blood. She was very skinny; you could make out the bones her flesh was trying to protect. She was looking directly at me, her eyes swelled with tears, her face was solemn. Her hair was in front of her face as she was hovering over me. I recognized how these horror stories went. First you get unsettling feelings, then you start to see weird stuff, and finally, you see the actual ghost/monster and get killed.
I shrieked as I yelled out to everyone, “EVERYONE WAKE UP, SHE'S HERE! SHE'S GOING TO KILL US ALL! WE NEED TO GET OUT OF HERE FAST!!!”
My vision suddenly clouded making everything look hazy. When it cleared I saw everyone was already outside like they were when I had first left to go to the bathroom. They were just looking at me perplexed trying to figure out what I was doing. My teacher approached me and questioned what happened. I tried to describe as best as I can on what had just occurred and why I was screaming like a psychopath. My teacher explained to me that I was just being paranoid since she understands how my dad doesn't really let me out of the house much at all and told me I was just seeing things because of a migraine I was having.
"Why don't I call your dad so he can pick you up tomorrow, and for now you can head to your tent and try to go to sleep.," my teacher told me, concerned about my well-being. I took her advice and headed straight to my tent, still confused as to what had just happened.
When I reached my tent there was writing on the exterior of the jacket I had borrowed from Brycen. The writing was in a deep red color, and the surface felt like it was written in spray paint. The writing was still wet since it was trickling all over the place, indicating it was just written. It said, "I wish you the strength to face challenges with confidence...along with the wisdom to choose your battles carefully...I wish you adventure on your journey and may you always stop to help someone along the way...listen to your heart and take risks carefully...remember how much you are loved...I am so proud of you!"
I didn't really understand what it was trying to state, but concerning how sweet and nice it was made me at ease. I was easily able to relax, being able to ignore what had happened and the migraine that had been killing me since I got back from the little incident with Brycen.
When I woke up my dad had already arrived. He had a concerned look on his face and was really exhilarated to see that I was all right. He told me to pack up immediately so we can get on the road, and arrive before nightfall. I did as he said and went back to my tent to pack up. As I was gathering up my belongings I discerned that my jacket didn't have the writing on it anymore. It was like it was never there to start with.
"Are you done!," exclaimed my dad from his car, as I hastened and just dumped everything in my bag, and hurried outside to catch up with him.
"Bye! See you at school on Monday, and don't forget to return my jacket!" Brycen cried out from behind.
"You too! Have a great time, and I won't!" I smiled back at him.
We arrived back at my house. I was so glad to get out the car, it was the most uncomfortable ride I've ever been in. My dad and I don't really have time to spend with each other so that was the longest time I've ever been with him, and we didn't really have much to discuss either.
"Hey, do you want to hear how your mother and I met, and how...she died?" asked my dad with a delicate smile.
I replied hesitantly, "y-yes."
"Come, sit here, I have something to show you," He gestured to the chair next to him, as he pulled out a photo from his wallet.
"This was where your mother and I first met. She was the most unique and lively girl I ever saw in my entire life. This is the same camp you were at a few hours ago. We had the same project as well. When we were at the camp your mom and I had a wonderful time, we were together throughout the trip, we became inseparable after meeting. It was like we'd known each other forever. We soon got married after we graduated from college and had your sister. We were so happy. After two years your mom gave birth to you. Right after you were born she was diagnosed with a disease that is very rare to have after giving birth for the second time. She was devastated. She insisted that she go back to the place where we had first met and said that she knew if she died there she would be able to see you one more time and tell you what she needs to, then be able to finally go to heaven in peace. I thought that was ridiculous, but since that was her last wish I took her there and we stayed there for a whole week until she passed away under a tree where we had first met while holding you in her arms. "
We both sat there in silence and I was able to understand what happened last night. I started crying hysterically wishing I hadn't run away and stayed in my bed when I saw her.
I miss you, mom...
