The 10th Annual ECHS Talent Show took place on Friday, April 5 at Rogers Herr Middle School and was a huge success. Seventeen acts graced the stage and showed off their vocal, instrumental, and dance skills. Morgan Cheek and Cemiya Bullock-Roman acted as hosts and also performed several times.
Senior participants included Morgan and Cemiya, as well as Jessica Thompson (ukulele and vocals), Phineas Nyangoro (keyboards), and Sierra Reynolds (vocalist). There were also a number of underclassmen, including Mackenzie Giattino who opened the show. Other freshmen were Nitara Brooks (vocals), Katie Bryant (ukulele and vocals), Tamar Hart (vocals), Sherlyn Argueta and Jimena Salinas (vocal duet and dance) and Jenaye Isaiah, Taniya O’Neal, and Arianna Turrentine (vocal trio).
Sophomore Ian Lawrence played guitar and sang and Christopher Mills performed a dance routine with the help of junior Taylor Williams who also sang a number later in the show. Junior Adeja Cheek sang duets with Ian and with Sierra. Junior Jordan Lee closed the first half of the show with a vocal performance. The show ended with a rousing rendition of Counting Stars sung by the entire music club.
Music club moderator Mr. Becker said, “It was a great show and I’m so proud of all of our students for working so hard for weeks to put it together. I will especially miss our seniors next year.” Music club moderator Mr. Tyus added, “I hope that even more students will come out next year to show off their incredible talents.”
The students who participated definitely enjoyed themselves. “I was nervous in the beginning but once you sing the first couple of words you feel one with the audience. Seeing other people’s performances are fun because you see people come out of their shells and have fun,” said Mackenzie. “I felt like it was really fun and it’s a good way to gain confidence,” said Jenaye. Taniya said, “The talent show helped build friendships and helps bridge the gap between different grade levels.”
